Erin "Brockovich" Pattee was born on June 22, 1960, in Lawrence, Kansas. She being the daughter of Betty Jo, a reporter, and Frank Pattee, an industrial engineer and soccer player.

She studied at Lawrence High School, graduating in 1978, before enrolling at the University of Kansas, however, she ended up graduating in 1980 from Wade College in Dallas, Texas with an Associate of Applied Arts degree.

Her first job after graduation was as a management trainee for K-mart in Newport Beach, California; She gave up a job that she left to take a position with Flour Engineers and Constructors, which she also left in pursuit of becoming a model and winning the 1981 Miss Pacific Coast pageant.

Being a trend at this stage of her life, she abandoned the path of modeling to marry Shawn Brown in 1982, with whom she began to form a family with the birth of two children, but five years later she would end up in divorce. .

Now a single mother, she took a secretarial job at a brokerage firm, E. F. Hutton; At which point she met stockbroker Steven Brockovich whom she would marry in 1989 and have a daughter, she would also adopt her last name by which she is now known.

In 1990 she divorced Steven and was once again forced to support her family. During this year, the act that would change her life forever would take place, when she was involved in a near-fatal traffic accident, which forced her to undergo neck surgery, which would make her return to southern California.

A year later, she would hire the law firm Masry & Vititoe to sue the other party involved in the accident, managing to reach an agreement. But the money she got was not enough to support her family, which prompted her to get a new job.
